Sigiriya & Dambulla
The rock fortress at first light, then the cave temples. The big one — and the longest drive.

Colombo · Negombo · west-coast hotels
Sri Lanka is small enough that a rock fortress, a tea estate and a leopard are all a day trip. We drive; you get the day.
A real day — Sigiriya & Dambulla, door to door
How it works
Sri Lanka looks small on a map. The roads disagree. Every tour below shows real door-to-door times, because a day that starts at five is a different holiday to one that starts at nine — and you should get to choose.
Which hotel, how many of you, what you'd like to see. One message is enough to start.
Timings, driver, vehicle, entrance fees, what's not included. Usually within a day.
No deposit to get a quote. We're licensed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

Elephants, near-guaranteed, in open country. An early start buys you the good light and the cool air.

Dutch ramparts, a slow lunch inside the walls, and a beach on the way back. The gentlest of these days.

Up through the escarpment to the estates: a working factory, a tasting, and air twenty degrees cooler than Colombo.

Kitulgala and the falls, with a raft on the Kelani if you want one. Wet, green, and close enough to be easy.

Why us
We're a small Sri Lankan operator in Malabe, just outside Colombo. The drivers are ours, not a pool. They know which gate is quicker at Sigiriya, which day the Kandy road closes for a procession, and where lunch is actually good.
That's the whole pitch. No booking engine, no dynamic pricing, no upsell at the temple gate.

Yes, and it's our most-booked day. Sigiriya is about 170 km from Colombo, which is roughly 4 hours 30 minutes each way by road. A realistic day is a 05:00 pickup and a 20:00 return. It is a long day and we'd rather say so up front — if you'd prefer something gentler, Galle or Kandy are much shorter drives.
Our day tours run from about USD 95 to USD 175 per vehicle, not per person, for a car carrying up to three passengers. That covers the vehicle, fuel and an English-speaking driver-guide. National park fees and entrance tickets are charged separately because they're set by the government and change; we list them in your quote before you commit.
The island has two monsoons, so somewhere is always in season. December to March is best for the west and south coasts and the cultural triangle. May to September suits the east coast — Trincomalee and Arugam Bay. The hill country is cool and clear for most of the year. There is no month with nothing worth doing.
Most visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorisation, applied for online before arrival. Check the official ETA portal for your nationality and the current fee, as both change. We don't charge for visa help — if you're stuck, ask and we'll point you at the right form.
Yes, anywhere on the west coast between Negombo and Bentota, and from Colombo airport. Pickup is included in the prices above. If you're staying further out, tell us where and we'll quote the difference rather than refuse.
Yes. Sonrisa Holidays is registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and has been operating from Malabe, Colombo, since 2011. We'll give you our licence number in writing on request — and you should ask any operator for it.
